Traditional medicine at ‘Afrikadag’ in Almere

On September 21 the yearly ‘Afrikadag’ will take place in Almere, with a host of African food, drinks, and an African market of products, workshops, expositions and an African village for children. This year, next to the usual ‘insects buffet’, there will be a stand with ‘African roots’, that is used as a traditional medicine for a range of illnesses. This bitter drink is an extract of various woods, mixed with water or gin. At local markets in West Africa, the medicine is sold to cure stomach ache, parasites, tuberculosis, diabetis, measles, hernia, dysentery, eye and ear pains, snake bites, juju and jinns, heart ache, and many more. And – if you like bitter drinks – it is just a appetizing drink. More information on the Afrikadag: [www.samenwerk.nl]
