- I DONT STOP/ POP SHIT
I've always liked
tracks with that mellow jazzy vibe, that doesnt mean to say that I like
everything with that flav. nah if its wack its wack. getting back on track,
kombo is laced with exactly that type flavor on his joint I DONT STOP. Tasty
xylophone tinkles, echo thru'out the track with warm basslines and a basic
drum track. Although our boy Kombonation claims "i'm tuned fine/ thats why
I rhyme vocally tigh", lyrically he doesnt shine, infact the quotes from
other emcees only help to further highlight his deficiencies. Despite this
fact I still find myself playing this shit to death. On POPSHIT, UNSPOKEN
HEARD make an appearance and help to lift things a notch on the lyric level.
This is where Kombo sounds better and their hook "this is that popshit/
that b-boy popping and lock shit/ going out to all those who like to pop
shit/ yo you be confusing hip hop with that popshit/ man get off it you
need to stop it", is some nice wordplay.

HEARD - BETTER / SMILEY
My eyes light up
at the cover fiiled with old artari games, but I'm more anxious to hear
what the heard have cooked up this time round, since I was feeling their
cosmology EP. Obscession of the Aboriginals takes the helm on production
and gets my vote as he helps the heard gain another notch and allow then
to focus on lyrics. SMILEY is the track getting major spins like every morning
and night on my old deck. Its upright bass and moody piano samples are combined
with a truncated snare. Theres a meandering flute that makes its appearance
and Obscession singing some adlib wooh woohs as well. Makes the track a
winner before the first word is said. Almost tear jerkingly beautiful. BETTER
got some more bounce to it and employs the same elements, sonically. Lyrically
the Heard dont fail and manage to make this single a double a sided gem.
The line that summed it up for me was "Armin ya with tunes that work better
than guns" Pure satisfaction! Do not miss!
