Afrovibes 2025

Afrovibes Festival brengt voorstellingen met dans, theater en muziek van actuele Afrikaanse dans- en theatermakers. Het zijn makers die vanuit een Afrikaans perspectief artistiek vorm geven aan actuele vragen en thema’s die ook bij ons leven en daar een eigenzinnige visie op hebben. Over wie we zijn, wat we willen zijn en hoe we met elkaar zijn verbonden. Afrovibes onderscheidt zich als een festival dat makers uit Afrika en de Afrikaanse diaspora in Nederland samenbrengt.
Legacy | Erfgoed
De Afrikaanse dans- en theatermakers bij Afrovibes 2025 laten in hun voorstellingen de huidige tijdgeest zien zoals zij die ervaren. Zij stellen vragen over hun culturele erfgoed en hoe we lessen kunnen leren uit het verleden over moed, ethiek en gezamenlijke kracht. En over de spanning tussen oude Afrikaanse rituelen en moderne hebzucht. De makers geven ons ideeën over hoe we in deze tijd van oorlog en klimaatverandering kunnen geloven en vertrouwen in een duurzame en stabiele toekomst. Wat laten we na voor de generaties na ons?

NVAS Afrikadag: 'Le corps ne ment pas'. Hedendaagse podiumkunsten in West-Afrika

Het Afrikaanse continent barst van de creativiteit. Daarom staat dit jaar de Afrikadag van de Nederlandse Vereniging van Afrika Studies (NVAS) in het teken van hedendaagse podiumkunsten in West-Afrika. Er zullen presentaties en korte performances gegeven worden op het gebied van Afrikaanse dans, toneel en muziek in het Parnassos Cultuurcentrum in Utrecht. Aan het eind van de middag is er voldoende tijd om na te genieten met een borrel en een Ethiopisch buffet. Voor de echte liefhebbers is er hierna de mogelijkheid om met korting de dansvoorstelling ‘Du desir d'horizons’ uit Burkina Faso te bewonderen in de Stadsschouwburg Utrecht (enkele minuten lopen vanaf Parnassos Cultuurcentrum). Onder leiding van beroemd choreograaf Salia Sanou laten acht dansers universele thema’s zien die bij iedereen herkenbaar zullen zijn. Explore Festival : Somewhere at the Beginning - Germaine Acogny (SE)
In this piece we explore through dance, traces of the history of Germaine Acogny and Africa through the prism of tragedy. It is a dialogue with issues of archaic background, a vessel full of associations loaded with content of our time. Taking this matter as a projection surface, enables us with this work to enter differently into the questionings and sufferings of our time. It was a great challenge to be able to offer on stage a strong and uncompromising dialogue between contemporary Africa and the ancient tragic world. Explore Festival : Du Désir d’horizons [Burkina Faso]
Where does the boundary between yourself and the other lie? How should you deal with problems while not losing yourself in the process? The dance performance Du désir d’horizons by choreographer Salia Sanou from Burkina Faso, one of the most influential artists in contemporary African dance, revolves around these questions. Sanou sought inspiration in the experiences he had during workshops he gave to refugees in his home country Burkina Faso (West Africa), although he says the performance should not be seen as documenting life in refugee camps. Instead, Sanou has six dancers, a narrator and two young refugees tell ‘stories’ about universal themes, which should also be familiar to non-refugees: loneliness, the individual versus the collective and the desire for freedom.
