Following the sold-out premiere in April, Africadelic, in collaboration with African Architecture Matters, presents a second screening of Tug of War (Vuta N’Kuvute) in film theatre Kriterion on Sunday May 28 at 5pm. This award-winning film about love and resistance in the final years of British colonial rule in Zanzibar received its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and was Tanzania’s second Oscar entry ever (and the first in over two decades) – and now you can watch it one more time on the silver screen in the Netherlands! The film will be introduced by Muhammad Juma, an architect and planner from Zanzibar committed to urban conservation and cultural heritage and currently the chief of the Africa Unit of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre. Africadelic Festival presenteert deze intieme documentaire over ‘de diva op blote voeten’, wereldster Cesária Évora uit Kaapverdië. Haar stem bracht haar van armoede naar sterrendom, maar haar enige droom was om vrij te zijn. De film combineert archiefbeelden, concertopnamen, interviews en beelden van Kaapverdië tot een krachtig portret en was een van de highlights van de afgelopen editie van IDFA.
