In memoriam: Azim Koning
Aangeslagen geven wij kennis van het overlijden van Azim Koning, vrijwilliger van de Africaserver. Sinds 6 april 2006 heeft Azim de agenda op de Africaserver verzorgd. Enkele uren per week was hij een vaste factor in onze studio, een gewaardeerde collega en onvermoeibaar verteller. Daarnaast was Azim lang voorzitter van Afrovibes, partner van de Africaserver.
Op maandag 25 december is Azim in Amsterdam overleden. Wij gaan Azim missen.

The online Global Extraction Film Festival (GEFF) 2022 with special programme: Africa in Focus
Streaming Online. The Global Extraction Film Festival (GEFF) 2022 will be streamed worldwide for free from October 26-30, 2022. The third edition of this online festival will present 250+ documentaries and urgent shorts from 50+ countries highlighting the destructive impacts of extractive industries. Founded in 2020 by Esther Figueroa (Vagabond Media) and Emiel Martens (Caribbean Creativity), the Global Extraction Film Festival aims to bring attention to the destructive impacts of extractive industries and to highlight communities across the world who are bravely defending against annihilation while creating livable futures. GEFF2022 features 6 programs with over 250 documentaries and urgent shorts from over 50 countries. The Africa in Focus Program, the festival’s most extensive and prominent program this year, offers 150+ feature documentaries and urgent shorts from all the 54 countries on the African continent, from the 48 countries sharing the area of mainland Africa to the 6 island nations that are also considered to be part of Africa.
Black Achievement Month
De Black Achievement Month wordt jaarlijks in de maand oktober gehouden. Het festival heeft als doel de uitzonderlijke talenten van mensen met Afrikaanse roots in de schijnwerpers te zetten. Met dit jaar onder meer een tentoonstelling, gesprekken, muziek en dans in het Cobra Museum (Amstelveen); voostellingen in het Afrovibes Festival; film in de Bijlmerbios (Amsterdam) en het Filmhuis Den Haag; dans in OBA-De Hallen (Amsterdam), Ladysmith Black Mambazo in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. Ook locaties in Rotterdam en Utrecht.
