Seminar: The Shadow Scholars
Donderdag 01 Oktober 2026 16:00 - 17:30
The Shadow Scholars is a documentary film that explores Kenya's academic ghostwriter-for-hire industry, where highly educated but underemployed Kenyans write essays and theses for students worldwide. The film follows Professor Patricia Kingori, who investigates the global multi-billion dollar industry of academic ghostwriting, revealing the profound consequences for both the writers and the students who benefit from it. It raises critical questions about the integrity of education and the ethical implications of outsourcing academic work. We are proud to have Prof. Kingori as our Seminar speaker on 1 October!

Tens of thousands of civilians have likely been killed in the city of El Fasher, Darfur. The atrocities still continue. What can the Netherlands, Europe and other international actors do?

Echoes of In*dependence
Cabo Verde en Suriname vierden afgelopen jaar vijftig jaar onafhankelijkheid. Congo vierde vijfenzestig jaar onafhankelijkheid.

I am not me, the horse is not mine

In Transition through Transmission, Innavisions, together with invited guests, explores new dimensions within visual art and music by connecting with spiritual, cosmic and African (diasporic) forms of knowledge.

Echo of our ancestors
Ancestral traditions are a source of inspiration. Over the centuries, these traditions have taken shape in objects, stories, visual languages and rituals. In Africa, traditions, the role of ancestors and spirituality play a prominent role in daily life. With, among others, Alida Ymele & Joél Mpah Dooh.

Mozambican Conflict Continuities
On 4 October of this year, Mozambique will commemorate 34 years since the signing of the Rome Peace Accords, which brought an end to the country’s 16-year civil war. Despite noticeable progress in development indicators during the post-conflict period, the establishment of entities that support the functioning of a multiparty democratic system, and the absence of nationwide armed conflict, Mozambique has experienced repeated incidents of politically motivated violence in various parts of the country.
