This dialogue between contemporary painting and traditional artifacts invites reflection on the power of image and narrative, and how these can be expressed across cultures through diverse techniques and materials.

Op zondag 25 januari openen we Skatecafe voor een fundraiser voor Sudan, in samenwerking met Omroep ZWART en met Nura en Sarah, die zich al lange tijd inzetten voor bewustwording en steun. Met hun Sudanese achtergrond en familiebanden is dit evenement voor hen persoonlijk betrokken. We staan stil bij de huidige situatie en zamelen geld in voor organisaties die directe ondersteuning bieden aan mensen in Sudan én aan de miljoenen vluchtelingen in de omliggende regio. Het wordt een dag met een divers programma vol muziek, panels, eten en meer.

Het Signum Quartett is diep verbonden met de geschiedenis van Zuid-Afrika, vooral omdat Xandi van Dijk, de altviolist van het internationaal vermaarde ensemble, er geboren is. De musici zijn nauw betrokken bij diverse componisten die hebben geleden onder het apartheidsregime, en graag delen ze dertig jaar na het einde van de apartheid hun muzikale hartenkreten met de luisteraar.

Op dinsdag 27 januari brengt het Jonge Alumni Netwerk (JAN) haar eerste werkbezoek van 2026 aan Amref Health Africa (voorheen Amref Flying Doctors). Een unieke kans om kennis te maken met de mensen achter deze bijzondere organisatie, waar ook alumni van de Universiteit Leiden werken.

Ervaar een unieke samensmelting van eeuwenoude Afrikaanse ritmes en hedendaagse jazz. De Malinese bassist Zonatan Dembélé (Rokia Traoré, Ben Zabo) wekt de spirit van de Bwa-volkeren tot leven met traditionele Deni-ritmes, subtiel verweven met blues- en jazzinvloeden. Samen met de Belgische jazzsaxofonist Bauke Meersman (Jazz Leuven, Radio Klara, Dunk! Festival) ontstaat een krachtige, grensoverschrijdende dialoog: een duoperformance die traditie en moderniteit laat botsen én versmelten.

De nieuwe supergroep Mandé Sila, gevormd rond de in Senegal geboren Malinese zanger en gitarist Habib Koité, komt naar de Kleine Zaal voor een semi-akoestisch concert. Habib Koité wordt vergezeld door Aly Keïta op balafon en Lamine Cissokho op de kora. Deze drie vaandeldragers van de West-Afrikaanse muzikale traditie vinden elkaar in supergroep Mandé Sila, dat ‘de weg van het Mandingo-rijk’ betekent en symbool staat voor de talen, culturen en muziek van West-Afrika. Het trio wordt op het podium vergezeld door Habibs vaste percussioniste Mama Koné.

Drie vaandeldragers van West-Afrikaanse muzikale traditie komen samen om Mandé Sila te vieren. Mandé Sila is de weg van het Mandingo-rijk, dat talen, culturen, muziek van West-Afrika symboliseert.

In de huidige context van wijdverbreide adoptie van precisielandbouw (PA) en enthousiasme binnen beleid, media, ontwikkeling en technologie, onderzoekt deze thesis de impact van PA-technologie op agrarische verandering. Specifiek wordt onderzocht hoe PA bestaande sociale productieverhoudingen hervormt en leidt tot het ontstaan van nieuwe relaties, actoren en dynamieken. De centrale onderzoeksvraag luidt: Hoe beïnvloeden PA-technologieën agrarische verandering?

Uniting the sounds of the motherlands and the islands, these two events have been pushing culture forward in Amsterdam for years. Afrolosjes has been at the forefront of Afrobeats; a grassroots organization that emerged from Amsterdam South-East, representing the diverse sounds of Africa on festival stages, through their weekly radio show, and in clubs across the city.
